Last time I was in Zagreb in February was exactly 10 years ago, to visit my great aunt Branka one last time.... It was as cold and gloomy as it can be in Central Europe around that time of the year and I don’t really know how many days I spent in Zagreb then, or at which address, but I do remember that on one of the evenings we drove into the darkness of snow covered Sljeme, we caught a breath and warmed ourselves up a bit in one of the mountain bistros. I, of course, ordered Kislo Zelje sa Buncekom, fermented cabbage with smoke dried ham hock - the ultimate comfort of Northern Croatia.
Yup, Croatia is not all coast and seafood, and I wanna take you inlands this February.
