In Bosnia & Herzegovina, unlike any other part of the Balkans, there is only one thing legally allowed to go under the name of Burek: sheets of phyllo pastry, rolled or layered, with minced beef and onion stuffing. All other versions, with cheese, squash, greens, potatoes, go under the name Pita and ignoring that fact when in Bosnia is nothing but asking for trouble.
An average Bosnian won't hesitate putting everything at stake in order to talk some sense in that innocent, unsuspecting head of yours. As if it were the ultimate threat to our national dignity, it's that one line we won't ever let you cross, not over our dead bodies. It's not even a discussion if there is only one possible outcome: THAT'S NOT BUREK.
Baring that in mind, you can't order Burek here.
What you can order are our pimped expat versions that don't tend to compete with the original, but are as real and as good.
